Chief Alaba Lawson (born Alaba Oluwaseun Lawson on January 18, 1951 – October 28, 2023) was a Nigerian business magnate, entrepreneur and academician.
She served as the first female president of NACCIMA and chairman of the board of the Governing Council, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun State.
Chief Lawson was also the president pro-tempore of the Forum of Female Traditional Rulers in Nigeria.

Early Life and Education
Alaba Lawson was raised in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, and attended St. James’ African Primary School in Idi-Ape, Abeokuta, from 1957 to 1962, and Abeokuta Girls Grammar School until 1968, when she left.
In 1973, she enrolled in St. Nicholas Montessori Teachers’ Training College in Prince’s Gate, England, where she earned a first-class diploma in education.
Alaba Lawson Career
Alaba Lawson began her teaching career in 1969 at Children House School in Ibara. Later, she moved to England and worked as a teacher at Mill Hill Nursery and Junior School and Queen’s Gate Montessori Nursery School.
She later returned to Nigeria in 1977 and opened Lawson’s Childcare Nursery and Primary School, which she started with just three students and has since expanded to become Lawson Group of Schools.
Later, between 1968 and 1996, she founded Capricorn Stores Ltd., a trading and distribution company, where she had distribution agreements with companies such as Nigerian Breweries Ltd., Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd., Guinness Nigeria Ltd., West African Portland Cement Ltd., etc.
In 1995, she was elected president of the Abeokuta Chamber of Commerce. Two years later, in 2000, she was elected president of the Ogun Council of Chambers of Commerce, a position she held until 2002. Additionally, in an effort to support SMES, she founded Abestone Microfinance Bank in 2009.
After Dr. Benny Edem’s term ended on May 25, 2017, Alaba was chosen as the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA)’s first female president.

The statement made available to journalists on Saturday morning partly read, “We regret to announce the demise of NACCIMA past President and ABEOCCIMA Matron and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, MFR, JP (Iyalode of Yorubaland) which occurred in the early hours of today, Saturday 28th of October, 2023. Burial arrangement to be announced later by the family. May God Almighty grant repose to the soul of Iyalode”.
