Early Life and Education
Alex Okosi was born on October 28, 1975, in Enugu State, Nigeria into a family of seven children (2 sisters and 4 brothers). Before retiring and relocating to Onitsha, his father worked in the Enugu government.
At the age of 12, Alex Okosi transferred from Zik Avenue Primary School in Enugu to the College of the Immaculate Conception (CIC). Alex Okosi had his early schooling there.
Before enrolling at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, Okosi attended a number of schools in New York, Missouri, Nebraska, and Florida.
Additionally, he enrolled at St. Michael’s College, a private, residential, Catholic liberal arts university in Colchester, Vermont, where he received a basketball scholarship to play Division II for the Purple Knights.

As a member of the Trade and Integrated Marketing team, Alex Okosi started working at MTV in 1998. With the help of prominent MTV franchises like the Video Music Awards, Spring Break, Movie Awards, and Wanna Be a VJ, he successfully integrated multi-platform marketing opportunities for sponsors, gaining invaluable expertise in the process.
He joined the MTV Networks Affiliate Sales & Marketing group in 2000, where he oversaw the distribution of MTV Networks brands like MTV, MTV2, CMT, Spike TV, VH1, and Nickelodeon.
Midway through 2003, Alex was promoted to manager and joined the Strategy and Business Development team at MTV Networks International. He created the business plan for MTV’s expansion into Africa while serving in this capacity, and in 2004 he won approval for the roll-out, which included the introduction of a localised MTV service.
Alex Okosi was appointed as YouTube’s Managing Director of Emerging Markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa in 2019. In April 2020, the appointment becomes effective.
Alex “brings a wealth of experience in the content industries and has a track record for building businesses and audiences in established and new markets,” said Cécile Frot-Coutaz, head of YouTube EMEA, in a statement regarding the appointment.
