Anyanwu-Akeredolu graduated with a Bachelor of Science in zoology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1977. She graduated from the University of the Philippines Visayas in Iloilo City with a Master of Science in fisheries with a focus in aquaculture.

While employed by the Federal Department of Fisheries, she started her career as a fish farmer. 2005 saw her retirement.
She runs Aquatek Farms Ventures, a business that specialises in commercial fish farming, and offers consulting services.
