Early Life and Education
Tijani was born on July 20, 1977, in Agege, Lagos, Nigeria and spent his formative years there before moving to Abeokuta, Nigeria for his secondary education.
He subsequently moved on to Jos, Nigeria in 1996 to continue his studies at the University of Jos, where he initially began by pursuing a diploma in computer science before switching to economics and earning a Bachelor’s degree in 2002. In 2007, he went on to earn an MSc in Information Systems and Management from the United Kingdom’s Warwick Business School.
Tijani graduated with a PhD in innovation and economic development from the University of Leicester School of Business in 2023. His doctoral work centred on advancing knowledge about how the network perspective on innovation capacity might offer a contextually appropriate framework for explaining the adoption and adaptation of innovation in developing countries, and more specifically, how African nations might organise their innovation ecosystems in an efficient manner.
In addition, Tijani participated in the Innovation for Economic Development executive programme at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2013 and was a Draper Hills Fellow at the Stanford University Centre for Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) in 2014.

Tijani was selected by New Africa Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People on the continent and is widely regarded as a pioneer and thought leader in the African technology ecosystem. As part of his initiatives to put Africa on the world technology map, he organised Mark Zuckerberg’s first trip to Nigeria in August 2016.
He has also welcomed other top technical figures from around the world in Nigeria, most notably hosting a fireside discussion with Microsoft founder and co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, in June 2023.
Under his direction, CcHUB purchased Kenya’s iHub in 2019 and opened the CcHUB Design Lab in Kigali, Rwanda, at the same time. By opening CcHUB Namibia, the primary tech centre in Windhoek, Namibia, in 2023, he has also increased CcHUB’s Pan-African impact into Southern Africa.
In addition, Tijani is currently a research associate at the Wits School of Governance. Her research focuses on collaborative initiatives that benefit policymakers, entrepreneurs, and innovators while also improving theories of innovation systems and governance.
