Early Life and Education
Jegede was born to Mrs. C.O. Jegede (née Asokeji) of Ipele town, close to Owo in Ondo State, Nigeria, and the late Chief Johnson Bosede, the Odopetu of Isinkan, Akure.
He attended St. Stephen’s “SA” Primary School in Modakeke and completed his secondary education at Aquinas College in Akure from 5 January 1973 to July 1978. At Aquinas College, where he served as a Senior Prefect, he actively participated in sports in the best familial traditions.
He received his Higher School Certificate education at Christ’s School in Ado Ekiti, and between 1978 and 1980, he served as the school volleyball captain at both Aquinas College in Akure and Christ School in Ado Ekiti. In addition, he served as captain of the university volleyball team at the University of Lagos, where he studied law from 1980 to 1983.
He was assigned to Yola, Adamawa State for his National Youth Service Corps after completing his higher education, where he began his career as a lawyer.
After completing the one-year required study at the Nigerian Law School at Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, Jegede earned his law degree in 1984.

He was designated a Notary Public in 1992 by the Chief Justice of Nigeria because he was a proactive and experienced lawyer. In less than 10 years, he rose to the level of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. In the domain of law where his expertise and practice are renowned and respected, he was intensely and actively involved in political lawsuits and election petition matters.
He was an employee of Murtala Aminu & Co. in Yola. After working for a law company for twelve years, six of which he spent as the Head of Chambers, he started his own business, Tayo Jegede & Co., in 1996. Before accepting his former position as Chief own Officer in Ondo State, he was managing his own practise, Tayo Jegede & Co, in Yola and Abuja.
The dynamic Governor of Ondo State nominated this legal legend as the Hon. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in May 2009 in his search for the state’s top law enforcement official who would be vibrant, dynamic, and very articulate. The Ministry of Justice has seen an unheard-of favourable improvement in every aspect since his appointment as the top law official of the state.
Formerly the Chancellor of the Anglican Dioceses of Yola, Jegede is also a member of the Implementation Committee of American University in Yola, Adamawa State, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of ABTI Academy International School, and the Board of Trustees of Elizade University in Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State.
By garnering 760 votes in the PDP primary, Jegede triumphed against Hon. Saka Lawal, the PDP’s deputy candidate for governor in the 2012 general election.
On November 23, 2016, the Appeal Court declared Jegede to be the PDP’s candidate for governor. a position that was previously held by business tycoon and billionaire Jimoh Ibrahim.
With 888 votes, Jegede won the PDP Governorship Primary for the October 2020 election in Ondo State, defeating Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi, who finished in a distant second with 657 votes.
