Henry Dele Alake was born on October 6, 1956, is a Nigerian journalist, activist and technocrat. He served as the former information and strategy commissioner in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 under Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was the state’s governor at the time. 

As the communication advisor and confidant of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, the victor of the 1993 Nigerian presidential election that was later declared invalid on June 12, he became actively involved in politics there.

In order to assist Nigeria’s former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari, in winning the country’s presidential election in February 2015, Dele Alake reemerged in national politics in Nigeria in December 2014 after being appointed as the organization’s director of media and communication.

Early Life and Education 

Dele Alake was born on October 6, 1956. Dele Alake attended Surulere Baptist elementary School for his elementary schooling. He also attended Christ’s School in Ado, Ekiti, where he earned his West African senior school diploma.

While enrolled in the Higher School Certificate program at Igbobi College in Yaba, Lagos, he earned the General Certificate of Education in 1974.

He earned a political science degree from the University of Lagos and a master’s degree in mass communication from UNILAG before graduating.

Dele Alake Career

During his NYSC service year, Dele Alake worked at the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), where he began his journalism career.

Before switching from broadcast journalism to print journalism, he was hired as a senior sub-editor at the Lagos State Broadcasting Corporation and had a few other positions.

He started working as a writer and editor for the Concord press publishers of the Concord group of Newspapers. Dele Alake started writing columns for the National Concord, where he worked up until 1989.

In addition to being named Sunday Concord’s editor, he also took on the role of National Concord editor.

Dele Alake served as Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola’s confidante and communication advisor between 1999 and 2007 as well as the state of Lagos’s commissioner for information and strategy under Bola Tinubu Ahmed.

He was chosen in 2014 to lead the Buhari campaign organization’s media and communication department in order to help Muhammadu Buhari win the 2015 election.

Alake announced his plan to run for the Ekiti Central senatorial seat in Ekiti State, however he later withdrew.
