Joseph Benjamin was born on November 9, 1976, to an Anambra State mother and a Kogi State native father.
After attending elementary school in Benue State, he completed his secondary education there. He holds a degree in mass communication and a computer literacy certification.

Although he had his television debut earlier, when he made an appearance in Tales by Moonlight on NTA at the age of twelve, Joseph Benjamin made his film debut in Crossroads in 1991 (with Ramsey Nouah and Sandra Achums).
