Early Life and Education
Kofi was born in Assin Anyinabrem in the Central Region of Ghana but spent most of his childhood in Takoradi in the Western Region where he attended the Young Christian Preparatory School for his elementary and basic schooling. At Mfantsipim School, where he completed his secondary education, he competed on the school’s national debate team.
Kofi Asamoah enrolled in the University of Ghana, Legon, to begin his postsecondary study. He continued on to the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), where he completed his studies and received a bachelor’s degree in film and television production with a concentration in film directing.
After that, Asamoah enrolled in the Ghana Institute of Journalism, where he graduated with a master’s in public relations. Later, he relocated to the US where he attended the New York Film Academy to study filmmaking.
Kofi Asamoah Career
Kofi began his career as a news reporter for Skyy Power FM/TV, where he later rose to prominence as the host of their reality programme. He started shooting films in Kumasi in 2009. He wrote and produced his first piece of content in 2012 called “Boys Kasa” (a comic series), which helped launch him into Ghana’s film business.
Area Boys (2011), Kalybos in China (2015), John and John (2017), and Amakye and Dede, a 2016 movie starring Majid Michel, John Dumelo, and Salma Mumin that won the Best Movie of the Year Award (Ghana) at the City People Entertainment Awards 2016, are just a few of the Ghanaian films that Asamoah has produced and directed.
At the 2016 City People Entertainment Awards, he took home the Best Film Director honour.
