With a catalogue of over three thousand (3000) hours of original content produced, that includes movies and TV series, ROK has in a short span become a leading producer of family friendly content and entertainment.

Early Life and Education 

Mary Remmy Njoku was born in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, Nigeria. She is the sixth child in an eight-child family. She hails from Enugu State’s Nsukka. 

She went to Navy Town Secondary School, National College Bagada, and Amuwo Odofin High School. She is a computer science diploma holder.

Njoku enrolled at Lagos State University in 2010 and pursued an English language degree there. In 2012, Njoku took a Producing: Movie Magic Budgeting and Schedule course at the London Film Academy in the United Kingdom, which was supported by her husband. 

She had a passion for acting since she was young and began performing on stage in her secondary school years. At the age of seventeen, Njoku entered the Nollywood industry in 2003. Unlike many others, Njoku believes that abilities are what matter most and that education is merely a means to an end.

In the 2004 Nollywood film “Homesickness,” costarring with Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Mary Njoku made her screen debut.  Mary Njoku gained notoriety in 2011 after appearing in the widely watched Nollywood movie “Blackberry Babes.”

Mary Njoku created iROKotv, a YouTube channel that showcased celebrity interviews with Nigerians and provided coverage of Nollywood and Afrobeats events, between 2011 and 2013. 

Mary Njoku joined IROKO Partners as Chief Content Officer in 2015. In March, she hosted the first-ever Nollywood film premiere in an IMAX theater—her world premiere for the movie Thy Will Be Done—at the BFI IMAX London.

For her part in the August 2018 film Nwanyioma, directed by Mary Njoku, she had to shave her head entirely.

August 2013 saw Njoku establish ROK Studios. Over 540 films and 25 original TV shows, including Festac Town, Single Ladies, Body language, Losing Control, and Husbands of Lagos, have been created by ROK since its founding in 2013. 

Njoku debuted ROK, a network that airs throughout the UK, on Sky in 2016. Several of her Nollywood coworkers attended the launch celebration, which was held at the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom, to mark the occasion.

In the same year, Njoku also debuted ROK on the network DSTV, which broadcasts throughout Africa. In response to the increasing demand for ROK on DSTV, ROK Studios debuted two additional channels in April 2018: ROK2 and ROK3. 

While ROK3 features a 24 hour movie and series selection in addition to displaying a range of Ghanaian talent, ROK2 offers programming that highlights the history of Nollywood.

The largest overseas transaction for a Nollywood brand to date was the acquisition of ROK by CANAL+ in 2019, which Njoku supervised.

With her business partners Jason Njoku and Bastian Gotter, Njoku established Spark, a $2 million investment vehicle for Internet start-ups based in Lagos, in August 2013.

On August 18, 2012, Mary Njoku wed British-born Nigerian businessman and African start-up investor Jason Njoku at Festac, Lagos, in front of her loved ones, friends, and coworkers. 

On July 30, 2013, they received Jason Obinna Njoku, their first son. On August 24, 2015, they welcomed Nwakaego Annabelle Njoku, their second child, and on August 4, 2017, they welcomed Amber Nnenna Njoku, their third child.
