Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda, best known by her stage name MzVee, is a Ghanaian singer who performs in the genres of afro pop, dancehall, and R&B. She was born on June 23, 1992. ‘Borkor Borkor’ (meaning – Slowly), ‘Natural Girl’, and ‘Dancehall Queen’ are just a few of the hit singles from her debut solo album.

The 2015 Ghana Music Awards’ New Artiste of the Year honor went to MzVee, who was signed to the record label Lynx Entertainment. In the year 2019, she cut ties with Lynx Entertainment. She works alone at the moment.

Early Life and Education 

Ernest Hamenoo-Kpeda, an entrepreneur, and Florence Hamenoo-Kpeda, a caterer, were MzVee’s parents when she was born in South La Estates, Accra. She has a brother and two older sisters. In her early years, she attended St. Martin de Porres School in Dansoman, Accra.

She attended St. Mary’s Girls’ Senior High School before transferring to Ghana Telecom University to pursue her current course of study in business administration.

MzVee Career

MzVee originally appeared on the Ghanaian music industry in the summer of 2012 as the main vocalist of the girl group D3 from Lynx Entertainment. Before breaking up at the end of 2013, the band scored successes including “Good Girls Gone Bad” and “Gyani Gyani,” but this was due to the youthful members’ commitments to their own academic careers.

MzVee began her solo career in January 2014 with the release of her first song, “Borkor Borkor.” She then released the popular song “Natural Girl,” which helped her win the “Unsung Artiste Award” at the 2014 Ghana Music Awards.

Stonebwoy, VIP, Shatta Wale, Richie Mensah, M.anifest, and Didier Awadi are among the award-winning musicians with whom she has collaborated on her debut album, which was published in November 2014.

MzVee’s second album, Verified, was released in November 2015 to acclaim after the success of her award-winning debut.

MzVee received nominated for seven categories for the album, including “Album of the Year” and “Record of the Year” for the track “Abofra,” which features Efya, at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards. DaaVee, her eagerly awaited third album, was released in May 2017.

From 2017 to 2019, MzVee took a two-year hiatus from the music business. She explained that her decision to leave the music business in an interview with TV3 on Monday, January 5, 2020, was motivated by a severe depression she was experiencing. Pregnancy rumors, which some claimed were the cause of her absence from the music industry, have been dispelled by this.

MzVee received support and encouragement from her friend Efya throughout the course of the two-year period, helping her to overcome depression. She has declared that she will resume her musical career in 2020 and that the song “Sheriff” will be her first release.

MzVee also mentioned that she will be releasing two albums when she came back from her depressive break from music. She evidently was unable to fulfill her pledge to release the two CDs as planned because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

She only really succeeded in getting the album inVeencible out there. On December 11, 2020, the album, which included Sarkodie, Mugeez, Efya, Medikal, Kelvyn Boy, Kojo Funds, Falz, and Navy Kenzoo, was released. She collaborated with Trace TV to release the music video for her single “You Alone” in March 2021.

MzVee’s fifth album, 10 Thirty, which was inspired by her tenth year as an artist and published to commemorate becoming 30 years old, was released on June 24, 2022. Nigerian performers Bella Shmurda, Yemi Alade, and Tiwa Savage, as well as Ghanaian artists Stonebwoy and Kofi Kinaata, were featured on the ten-track album 10 Thirty.
