Niniola Biography
Niniola Apata was born on December 15, 1986, known professionally as Niniola, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.
In 2013, she took part in the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa. She received a nomination for Most Promising Act to Watch at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards following the release of her debut single, “Ibadi”.
Early Life and Education
Niniola Apata was raised in Lagos State, Nigeria, and was born on December 15, 1986, into the family of Rt. Brigadier General Simeon Olaosebikan Apata (late) and Mrs. Margaret Apata. She is Teni’s immediate older sister.
At Apata Memorial High School, Niniola started her education in both primary and secondary school. She later graduated from the University of Lagos with a bachelor’s degree in education.
She was reared by three mothers and a deceased father in a polygamous home where she was the sixth of 10 children. Her father was slain in 1995.

Throughout her time in secondary school, Niniola took part in a variety of social events and sporting competitions. In the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa, she placed third runner-up.
She sang “Limpopo” live with Kcee and her Cobhams Asuquo-produced song “Itura” during the competition. Her main musical influences include Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, The Cranberries, Madonna, Beyoncé, and Angélique Kidjo.
The debut single “Ibadi” by Niniola was made available on March 19, 2014. The song, which was produced by Sarz, topped national music charts and garnered a lot of airtime.
Her singles “Ibadi” and “Gbowode” were featured on the Gidi Up season 2 soundtrack. She was listed as one of the 15 Artists to Watch in 2015 by NotJustOk. In the Most Promising Act to Watch category of the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, Niniola was nominated.
In 2017, Niniola released the “Maradona” single, which was created by Sarz. The song stayed at the top of the Metro FM chart in South Africa for 13 weeks, holding that spot for six of those weeks. The song “Maradona” garnered Niniola nominations for the 2018 BET Awards and SAMAs.
A remix of Niniola’s previously released single Maradona, called Maradona Riddim, was made in 2018 in collaboration with DJ Snake. Drake, a Canadian rapper, and Timbaland, an American song producer, both gave her the thumbs up.
A portion of “Maradona” was sampled in the song “Find Your Way Back” by Beyoncé from the soundtrack album The Lion King: The Gift in 2019. One of the track’s writers and composers is listed as Niniola.
She was presented with a certificate confirming her nomination for a Grammy in April 2020 for her work as a composer on The Lion King: The Gift.
She received a certificate for her second Grammy nomination in June 2021 for her work as a composer on The Lion King: The Gift. Niniola was inducted into the Grammy Recording Academy’s Class of 2021 in the same month.
Niniola’s track “Maradona” received a gold certification from the Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA) in July 2021.
The Recording Industry of South Africa RISA awarded Platinum status to Niniola’s track “Maradona” in January 2023.
