Early Life and Education
Olumide Akpata was born on October 7, 1972, at Edo State of Nigeria. In 1992, he graduated with a bachelor’s in law from the University of Benin in the state of Edo, and in 1993, he was admitted to the bar. In Kano State, he participated in the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC).

Olumide Akpata began his legal practice in Delta state under the tutelage of Dr. Mudiaga Odje, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, OFR, who was one of the most seasoned litigators of his time.
Olumide Akpata moved to Lagos in 1996 and joined forces with his cousin Oghogho Akpata, who had recently founded the law company Templars.
At the age of 23, Olumide Akpata joined the founding of Templars and helped the company develop into what it is today—one of the biggest law firms in Nigeria with a staff of about 100 attorneys, including two Senior Advocates of Nigeria who both have extensive experience in a range of Nigerian legal specialties.
Olumide Akpata is a senior partner and the head of Templars’ Corporate & Commercial Practise Group. He has taken part in some of the significant, ground-breaking deals that have influenced both Nigeria’s economy and the practise of commercial law there. He served as the head of the Nigeria Bar Association’s Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL).
On July 30, 2020, he won the presidency of the Nigerian Bar Association with a total of 9,891 votes out of the 18,256 ballots cast, defeating Babatunde Ajibade (SAN), who received 4,328 votes, and Dele Adesina (SAN), who received 3,982 votes.
On August 1st, 2023, Mr. Akpata officially entered politics, reaffirming his dedication to public service by joining the ranks of the Labour Party (Nigeria). This was a momentous event.
