Pauline Kedem Tallen was born on January 8,1959, she is a Nigerian politician who served as the Minister for Women Affairs Minister and Social Development.

She was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 after rejecting an ambassadorial nomination in 2015 on the grounds that she had not been consulted before the appointment was made public and that she would not accept the offer of an equal distribution of power among the three senatorial districts of her native state of plateau because she is from the same local government as Governor Simon Lalong.

She was nominated to Olusegun Obasanjo’s cabinet as Minister of State for Science and Technology in 1999. She was the first woman to hold the position of deputy governor in northern Nigeria when she was appointed to Plateau State’s position in 2007. She ran for governor of the state in 2011, but Jonah Jang defeated her.

She currently serves on the board of trustees of the All Progressive Congress and was recognized as lady of the year at the 10th African Icon of Our Generation Award for her contributions to Nigeria. She serves on the National Agency for Control of Aids’ (NACA) board of directors.

Early Life and Education 

Pauline Tallen is a native of Shendam, to the family of Kattiems. She got a degree in sociology at the University of Jos in 1982.

Pauline Tallen Career

In 1976, Tallen began her political career as the Shendam local government council’s administrative assistant, subsequently transitioning to the ministry of local government affairs.

She joined the Labor Party in 2011 and ran for governor of the state after that. She was appointed a councilor in Plateau State by 1994. Between 1994 through 1999, she served as the state’s commissioner under the military administration.

She was the first woman to hold the position of Minister of State for Science and Technology when Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president, appointed her to it in 1999.

She switched from the PDP to the APC before the 2015 general elections, a decision she felt had infuriated several residents of her state. She didn’t have any regrets, though, and said that the decision was a calling from God. She turned down President Buhari’s nomination for an ambassadorship in 2015, citing issues with her state’s zoning and federal character as justifications.

She said to Leadership in an interview that she ran against the governor as deputy governor for the sake of the state and because she believed that he didn’t have the interests of the people at heart. She added that President Buhari’s win in the general elections of 2015 was divinely ordained.

Personal Life

She was wed to John Tallen, a People’s Democratic Party leader who passed away in 2017. She is a mother of five.

Tallen’s son filed a lawsuit against her for obstructing his freedom of speech and mobility in 2013. She nevertheless replied a few days later by accusing her son in court of breaking into her home and stealing her jewelry; as a result, her son was detained in detention.
