Prince Kofi Amoabeng was born on February 22, 1952, is a Ghanaian businessman and a former military officer of the Ghanaian Armed Forces. He was a founding member of UT Bank, which failed in 2017 as a result of Ghana’s banking crisis and claims that he had embezzled money from the institution.
Following his arrest on January 14, 2020, and release on a bail of 110 million cedis, he is currently involved in continuing court battles about these claims.

Early Life and Education
Amoabeng was born on 22 February 1952 in Bososo in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Amoabeng began his education at Accra’s Penworth Preparatory School, a boarding institution.
Before continuing to the University of Ghana for his undergraduate degree, he completed his secondary education at the St. Peter’s Secondary School in Nkwatia Kwahu and Adisadel College in Cape Coast, Ghana.
He graduated from the University of Ghana Business School in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in administration with second-class upper honors.
He received a scholarship from the Ministry of Defence after enlisting to attend a program at the Royal Army Pay Corps, where he graduated with an accounting degree in just 18 months and made the decision to move back home.
Prince Kofi Amoabeng Career
In April 1975, Amoabeng started his military career with the Ghanaian Armed Forces. In November 1975, he received his lieutenant’s commission.
Amoabeng was accused of embezzling 59.9 million Ghana cedis from UT Bank in January 2020. Amoabeng was a cofounder of the bank, which failed amid the Ghanaian banking crisis, and was charged with its theft.
The prosecution plans to file new charges after the initial ones were later dismissed.
