Early Life and Education
Samson Uche Mogekwu was born on November 30, 1974, in Delta State, Nigeria. He began singing while in high school, where he also took on the name Samsong. He attended Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state, majoring in Accounting.
Samsong Career
Samsong formed a quartet known as Praise Creation. They signed with the Ivory Music Label, and in 1996, they put out their debut album, Best of Life.
Following the dissolution of the trio, Samsong went solo and released his debut album, Count Your Blessings, in 2002. The Psalmist Award was given to the record that year.
In 2004, he released his second album, Still Counting. In 2004 at the Today’s Music Awards, he earned the “Best Male Vocalist of the Year” Award, and in 2005 at the The Amen Awards, he received the same honour. He was given the “Best Video of The Year” Award at the 2005 Vigoma Awards.
His third album, The World of My Dreams, came out in 2007 and included a cover of Onyeka Onwenu’s well-known hit song “One Love,” which he sang as a duet with. The song “Live Right” was a collaboration with Styl-Plus on the album. In the same year, he was presented with the Grace Honorary Award for Excellence.
He was a finalist for the “Best Gospel Artist” honour at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) in New York City in 2008. He set out on an international tour to support his album, stopping in South Africa, the UK, and Germany. He collaborated with German gospel producer Chris Lass while in Germany to record and perform.
In August 2009, he embarked on his most recent headline tour. Vice President Joseph Belmont welcomed him as he was touring the Seychelles island.
