Tunji Disu was born on April 17, 1966, in Lagos Island, Lagos State, Nigeria. He attended Mayflower Junior School in Ikenne, Ogun State, for his post-primary education before continuing on to Saint Gregory’s College in Lagos and Pobuna Secondary Grammar School in Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria.

In 1992, Tunji enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force at the Nigeria Police Academy located in Wudil, Kano State, Nigeria, as a cadet ASP. In the Rivers States, Oyo, and Ondo, he held the position of Officer in Charge for the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). He worked as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Aide-de-Campo when he was the governor of Lagos State. Later, he was assigned to Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
Tunji Disu was formerly the Department of Operations’ Deputy Commissioner of Police at Force Headquarters in Abuja. In his capacity as the State of Lagos’ previous Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Commander, he was also praised with repositioning, enhancing, and rebranding the RRS as a leading security force in Nigeria. He has also held the position of Deputy Head of Unit at the State CID in Rivers State in the past. He had additionally held the position of Commander of the Nigerian Police Delegation to the African Union (AU) Peacekeeping Mission in the Darfur region of Sudan.
He is a member of several professional associations, such as the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management.
Before being named as the new head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), DCP Tunji Disu served as the deputy commissioner of police in the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
