Early Life and Education
Uche Nnaji Nwakaibie was born into the family of Chief & Mrs. Obed Nnaji in Akpugo Nkanu West LGA of Enugu State. The first of four kids, he is. But his father passed away in 1978. The family’s primary provider after his father’s unexpected death was his mother.
In his home state of Enugu, Uche completed all of his studies. He went to Santa Maria Primary School in Enugu (now Ziks Avenue Primary School), St. Patrick’s College in Emene, Enugu, and the Nsukka campus of the University of Nigeria.
Uche Nnaji Career
The governor candidate first gained attention in 1999 when he secured the senatorial nomination of the then Alliance for Democracy, AD.
Nnaji was reportedly planning to run for senator in the PDP’s Enugu East Senatorial Zone, but after switching from the APP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, the party’s then-National Secretary, changed his name to Senator Ken Nnamani.
Angered by the unfairness, he defected to the Alliance for Democracy (AD) 72 hours before the election and defeated Senator Ken Nnamani of the PDP in 65 of 66 wards. Later, Chief Jim Nwobodo, who won the senatorial district election, would take his place.
Uche Nnaji is the brother of Hon. Nnoli Nnaji, a member of the House of Representatives for the Nkanu East and West Federal Constituency. For the House of Representatives in the general elections of 2023, the Peoples Democratic Party is running Nnoli. He won reelection.
