P2J Career
At the age of 14, P2J began to firmly establish his production profession when a teacher suggested he switch to music classes. His career began in 2007 with the grime song “Hands in the Air” on the television network Channel U under the name P2J Project.
He previously worked as Pro2Jay, producing music for artists including Krept & Konan, Tiwa Savage, and Lily Allen. He worked with Chris Brown to create the song “Covered in You” for the album Heartbreak on a Full Moon in 2017.
He collaborated with singers including Burna Boy, Wizkid, GoldLink, WSTRN, Doja Cat, Davido, and more in 2019, becoming one of the most sought-after afrobeats producers.
He produced six tunes for The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack album with Beyoncé, which was his biggest collaboration of the year and earned him a Grammy nod for Best Pop Vocal Album. On Burna Boy’s album Twice as Tall, he received his first Grammy for Best Global Music Album in 2020.
Wizkid’s album Made in Lagos, which featured the Grammy-nominated song “Essence” and was primarily produced by P2J, was released. In 2021, a remix of the song with Justin Bieber was published, making it the first Nigerian single ever to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200.
He worked as FKA Twigs’ producer on the song “Jealousy” off her mixtape Caprisongs in 2022. Additionally, he contributed to the production of “Fallen Angel” on Ella Mai’s most recent album “Heart on my Sleeve” and 5 tracks on the Young T & Bugsey mixtape Truth Be Told.
