Early Life and Education
Taoreed Lagbaja was born on February 28, 1968, in a town called Ilobu of Irepodun present day Osun State.
He was raised in Osogbo and attended the prestigious St. Charles Grammar School and Local Authority Teachers College there.
Taoreed Lagbaja Career
He was accepted into the 39th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1987. On September 19, 1992, he received his commission as a second lieutenant into the Nigerian Infantry Corps. Mr. Lagbaja oversaw the 93 Battalion’s platoon from 1992 to 1995.
He oversaw a platoon for the 72nd Special Forces Battalion from 1995 until 2001. Mr. Lagbaja graduated with a Bachelor of Geography degree from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 2001. At the Master’s level, he studied Strategic Studies at the US Army War College.
Between 2001 and 2004, he worked as an instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy. Mr. Lagbaja once served as the Department of Army Training and Operations’ Grade 2 Staff Officer in charge of peacekeeping at Army Headquarters. From 2006 to 2009, he worked as a Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College.
He rose to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff G1 at Headquarters 81 Division by 2009, and from 2012 to 2013 and 2014 to 2015, he served as Commanding Officer of the 72nd Special Forces Battalion in Makurdi. He was appointed Chief of Staff at Monguno’s 8 Task Force Division Headquarters in 2016.
From January to December 2018, he was the Director of Operations at the Army Headquarters Department of Army Training and Operations. He served as the commander of the Headquarters 2 Brigade in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and the Headquarters 9 Brigade in Ikeja, Lagos.
From March 2021 to August 2022 and from August 2022 to June 2023, Mr. Lagbaja served as General Officer Commanding Headquarters 82 Division and Headquarters 1 Division, respectively. He participated in the ECOWAS Standby Force Battalion Command Post Course at the Peacekeeping Centre, Bamako, Mali, from June to August 2010 and the Military Observers Course on Peacekeeping Wing at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry Jaji from February to May 2008.He began his career as a second lieutenant and has held the rank of major general since September 2019.
Mr Lagbaja participated in Operation HARMONY IV in Bakassi Peninsula; United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC); Operation ZAKI Internal Security Operation in Benue State; Operation LAFIYA DOLE; Operation MESA/Operation UDO KA – March 2021 – August 2022 – Internal Security Operation in South-east Nigeria (Anambra/Abia/Ebonyi/Enugu and Imo States); and Operation FOREST SANITY – Aug 2022 to 2023 – Internal Security Operation in Kaduna/Niger states.
